Mercedes-Benz launches second phase of its U.S. diesel offensive

Under the heading “Vote for BlueTEC”, Mercedes-Benz is continuing its diesel offensive in the U.S. with a vengeance. At the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), the three-pointed star is presenting three new, exceptionally clean diesel SUVs with the latest AdBlue injection technology. The ML 320 BlueTEC, the R 320 BlueTEC and the GL 320 BlueTEC boast such low emissions that they comply with even the strictest exhaust limits such as the Bin 5 and ULEV standards in the U.S. They are also poised to fulfill the future EU6 standard in Europe. The focal point of today’s Mercedes-Benz NYIAS press conference was the facelifted M-Class, which celebrated its world premiere as the ML 320 BlueTEC.

“The BlueTEC campaign expresses our ambitious targets for the U.S. We want to make diesel driving popular here again – especially for SUVs,” comments Dr. Thomas Weber, Member of the Management Board Daimler AG, Group Research & Mercedes-Benz Cars Development. “The prospects for this are now even better,” Weber continues, “because, just in time for the world premiere in New York, we have become the first manufacturer ever to receive certification enabling registration of Bin 5 and ULEV compliant diesel SUVs, thus qualifying them for registration in all 50 states.”

Mercedes Benz Roadster with new glossy finish

Mercedes Benz RoadsterSleek and elegant, a dream in black with brilliant red leather seats. This is the look Belgian classic car aficionado Andries Meuzelaar’s 300 SL Roadster will be sporting when it returns as king of the road in the near future. At the moment, the Mercedes Benz is still hidden away in Stuttgart, where the legendary model is getting a makeover. Even in its current state, however, with its paintwork sanded off, inner workings removed and body perched up on blocks, the supple curved body provides a glimpse of the vehicle’s grace and elegance. “It’s a real gem, a milestone in automotive history,” says Meuzelaar. It’s no wonder, then, that his standards for restoring the roadster are extremely high. “I trust Glasurit. My experience with Glasurit paints in the past has been excellent, and they are my obvious choice this time around, too.”

Brimming with anticipation:
The task of putting Meuzelaar’s 1960 Roadster back on the road has been assigned to restorer Johannes Kleissl. “Restoring these cars isn’t just my job, it’s also my passion,” says Kleissl, owner of the HK-Engineering restoration company, which deals exclusively with Mercedes Benz 300 SL models. The company has four locations in Germany and an international service network, making it one of the world’s largest restoration companies. Meuzelaar’s Mercedes will soon be wearing a new coat of Glasurit paints, and Kleissl thinks that’s great. “We want only the top of the line for this legendary car.” The fact that the 300 SL is more than a mere set of wheels for Meuzelaar goes without saying: “I can’t wait to see and experience my car in all its glory – I’m as excited as a little kid!”
Paint competence “made in Münster”:
The 300 SL is not the first Mercedes Benz “Sport Light” to be revitalized with a coat of Glasurit brand paint. This past April, the U.S. hit series “Dream Car Garage”, which is currently restoring a 300 SL coupe, was on location at sites including Glasurit in Münster-Hiltrup. In order to match the original as closely as possible, the “Dream Car Garage” crew is using waterborne Glasurit 90 Line paints to refinish the car in its original color. The Glasurit COLOR-PROFI System is making a major contribution to the restoration. The world’s largest color archive has 200,000 color chips with original paint, documenting the color history of an entire century. Meuzelaar himself is no stranger to Glasurit. Two years ago, experts at Glasurit supported him in the search for the original color of his Horch 853 classic sports convertible. After meticulous research and a number of test mixtures, the Glasurit paint experts finally came up with the original color, which they identified using pictures from the old Horch brochure.

The Roadster was manufactured until 1963. It had six cylinders and a nearly 3,000-cubic centimeter, 215-horsepower motor and could reach maximum speeds of 250 kilometers per hour.

Mercedes-Benz Launches CGI Engine & Mercedes-Benz C200 Car in India

Mercedes-Benz unveiled its roadmap for gasoline engine technology in India. "The CGI technology heralds a new era in gasoline engines with improved output, optimized consumption and even more impressive emission statistics" commented Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bharat Balasubramanian, Vice President Product Innovations & Process Technologies, Group Research & Advanced Engineering, Daimler AG, speaking to media persons at the launch event.

Mercedes-Benz CGI Engine & C200 Car India
The CGI technology makes its debut in the C-Class. Dr. Wilfried Aulbur, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India explained the rationale: "The C-Class is in most cases the first touch point of customers with our brand. Mercedes-Benz stands for exciting products and cutting edge technologies; what better way to reinforce this promise than by offering the C 200 CGI as the harbinger of the CGI revolution in gasoline engines!"

The CGI technology is the first of its kind in the world to use sophisticated petrol direct-injection engine with spray guided combustion process. CGI engines use piezo-injectors (also seen on the global F700 DiesOtto concept presented by Daimler AG). With the new technology, the engine can run with high excess air and thus offer excellent fuel efficiency. Thanks to multiple injection, it is for the first time possible to extend this lean-burn operating mode to higher rpm and load ranges too.

Among the most important components of this innovative direct petrol injection system are the fast-acting piezoelectric injectors. They have nozzles which open outwards to create an annular gap just a few microns wide. This gap shapes the fuel jet and produces a uniform, hollow-cone-shaped spray pattern. The microsecond response times of the piezoelectric injectors provide the basis for delivering multiple injections per power stroke, and thus for lean-burn operation. By allowing flexible and efficient control of the combustion process they play a key part in ensuring the engine's outstanding fuel efficiency. The engine’s innovative injection procedure makes for much better fuel and thermodynamic efficiency than the wall-guided combustion process previously employed with direct injection.

Mercedes-Benz has replaced the previous 4-in-line KOMPRESSOR Technology with the world's first spray-guided direct petrol injection. Thus in the C-Class, the C 200CGI replaces the C 200 Kompressor in the model range. The C 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY equipped with the new engine technology consumes just 11.4 km /litres of fuel knocking 0.78 litres off the values of the C200Kompressor. CO2 emissions are also reduced from 215g/km to 201 g/km. The debutante offers an output of 137kW at 5600rpm (approx. 5% increase over the C 200Kompressor). At the same time it offers increased bottom-end torque of 285 Nm at 2400-4000 rpm (C 200Kompressor = 240 Nm @ 3500 - 4500rpm ). Thus the C 200CGI is keenly tuned in with the environmental objectives of lower emission at the same time becoming even more pleasurable to drive, more sporty and quick.

As well as an exciting design and hallmark Mercedes refinement, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class displays state-of-the-art technology such as the AGILITY CONTROL package with selective damper control and the PRE-SAFE system with anticipatory occupant-protection measures. Furthermore, independent studies confirm that the C-Class has the highest resale value in the medium-size category, while the latest breakdown statistics compiled by the ADAC (German Automobile Association) reveal that it is the most reliable car in its class.

The Mercedes-Benz C200 CGI is priced at Rs. 26.25 Lacs Ex-showroom Mumbai. ( Ex Delhi is 28.98, Ex-Bangalore = 29.23 )

Aurangabad looks forward to 150 Mercedes Benz luxury cars

The city of Aurangabad is often written off as an ordinary, dirty and poor Indian city. The crowded streets and bland buildings do little to augment its image. It is a thriving manufacturing hub for pharmaceuticals, electronics and cars. However the current bulk order for 150 Mercedes Benz luxury cars will take every one by surprise. The bulk buy is an effort by the city's upper class to put their B –town in the fast lane.

Speaking on the sudden change in events, Mr. Rahul Mishrikotkar, Director, Multitech Distributors said, "We are a close knit group of like minded friends from similar age groups in Aurangabad. We always thought of doing something big-banging to put Aurangabad on the global map. We thought we should buy luxury cars in one go to conceptualize this idea. Then everyone got added to it. "

Talking about the growing awareness of luxury brands, Raghavendra Joshi, Chairman, RJ Group said, "In the olden days the psychological mentality was a little different. People were not ready to spend money - not as much as people in the big cities. But now as the new generation is taking up the business, they spend their childhood here but they go abroad and see the outside world. They want to spend money, not just save it."

The Aurangabad bulk buy has had a ripple effect and the CEO of Mercedes Benz said, "This has had a positive impact not only creating aspirations in other tier 2 and 3 cities around the country, but it's made a difference to Aurangabad. Already new industries are coming in and starting to take the place more seriously."

There is more surprise as the bulk buys have not stopped with Mercedes. There are other groups ordering for 101 BMWs.

Mercedes-Benz India FY10 sales up 80%

Mercedes-Benz India announced a remarkable year-end sales performance for 2010. The company has sold 5819 cars from Jan – Dec 2010 which is a growth of 80% over 2009 (3250 units in 2009). The key growth drivers were the E–Class with 2490 units (2009=1024units), C-Class with 2070 units (2009= 1579 units) as well as the SUV range comprising the M-Class, GL-Class and the R-Class with 523 units (2009= 140units).

The best ever December was also recorded by the company with 710 units being sold as wholesale by Mercedes-Benz India. The key products that contributed to this growth were the E-Class with 371 units sold (136 units in December 2009), the C-Class with 141 units sold (133 units in December 2009), followed by 127 units of the SUV segment- comprising M-Class, GL-Class & the R-Class-(15 unit of M-Class in December 2009).

Mercedes-Benz’s strategy for the Indian market have been focused upon offering a comprehensive product portfolio, delivering the highest value to the customer as well as ensuring world class sales, after sales and vehicle ownership experience. These initiatives coupled with aggressive product launches and network enhancement to smaller towns and cities have reinforced the strong traction with Indian market in 2010.

Mercedes India eyes semi-urban cities

In an attempt to explore new avenues for its luxury cars in India, Mercedes-Benz India Limited has decided to enter tier two and tier three cities in the country. As part of the initial expansion spree, the company aims to sell around 50 units per year in these cities.

However, the decision of expansion has come at a time when reports of dark clouds on car sales are hovering over the auto market.
