Acura will add V-6 engine to TSX sedan lineup for 2010 with 3.5-liter engine

New V-6 promises more sport for Acura’s sporty TSX that provides an impressive 280 horsepower, the automaker said during the recent Chicago auto show debut of the car.

This is a new model that adds to the lineup of the second generation of Acura’s entry-level sedan, which went on sale last April as an early 2009 model. Up until now, the TSX has been available only with a four-cylinder engine.

Unveiled at last year’s New York auto show, the redesigned TSX – Acura’s entry-level model -- was updated throughout.

The V-6 model will arrive this summer, but no prices have been announced yet. But the 2009 model, with the four-cylinder, has a base price range of $29,160-$32,260 (plus $760 freight).

Besides the bigger engine, the V-6 TSX will have "exclusive" suspension tuning, larger wheels and additional extras, officials of Honda’s premium brand said.

"The automotive market may be slowing down, but not Acura," Jeff Conrad, Acura’s vice president for sales, said during the Chicago introduction of the new model. "With improved acceleration and handling, the new 280 horsepower V-6 adds even more sport to the already sporty nature of the popular TSX sports sedan."

Acura says that since last year’s redesign, the TSX has "shattered sales records to become one of Acura’s best-selling sedans."

The automaker said the V-6 model would fall between the highest-priced four-cylinder model and the TL sedan, which is the next step up in the Acura lineup.

When it was also redesigned last year, the TL was moved farther upscale, with the starting price raised to $34,955 from 2008’s $33,725. The TL comes only with V-6 power. The 3.5-liter engine in the base TL will be the same one used in the new TSX model. The TL’s all-wheel-drive model comes with a 3.7-liter V-6.

"The TSX V-6 will be aimed squarely at youthful buyers who want a performance-oriented sports sedan in a more personal size," Acura said.

The engine will be paired with Acura’s five-speed Sequential SportShift automatic transmission, with such features such as grade-logic and shift-hold control. The transmission can be operated in full automatic mode, or the driver can shift it manually, although without having to use a clutch, of course.

For sporty handling, Acura will use a specially tuned double-wishbone front and multilink rear suspension system, and the car will have 18-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels and Michelin Pilot all-season tires.

Also different from the four-cylinder model will be the "slightly revised front fascia" and a V-6 badge on the trunk lid, Acura said.

"The TSX V-6 model will be generously equipped with the latest advancements in safety technology and is anticipated to achieve the highest ratings in both government and independent crash testing," the company said.

Because the TSX is designed and marketed as a sport sedan, Acura offers a six-speed manual transmission with the four-cylinder engine, but that won’t be available with the V-6.

With last year’s redesign, the changes in the new generation are numerous, and Acura hopes that the car can help revive the brand’s sagging sales.

Acura calls the TSX’s new exterior "Keen Edge Dynamic" styling, intended to give it a cutting-edge appearance to resonate with the youthful consumers the car is intended to appeal to – typically, young, single professionals or couples.

The car is 2.4 inches longer and three inches wider than its predecessor, and it has a 1.3-inch longer wheelbase. For greater stability, it has a 2.6-inch wider track, which adds to the car’s sporty driving experience.

In the 2009 model, the only engine is a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine with 201 horsepower and 172 foot-pounds of torque (170 with the automatic).

No EPA ratings have been released for the TSX V-6 model, but in the TL, that engine is rated at 18 miles per gallon city/26 highway.

With the four-cylinder TSX, the EPA numbers for the automatic model are 21 city/30 highway; with the manual, they’re 20/28.

The 2009 TSX comes with a new suspension system engineered to give the car great handling along with improved ride quality – two features that often are at odds with each other. Tuning a suspension for crisp handling usually means making the ride rougher, and premium cars often have to emphasize handling or comfort, rather than embracing both fully.

Even at the base price, the TSX is very well equipped. Standard amenities include leather interior, a power moon roof, high-intensity headlights, Bluetooth hands-free phone link, and a great audio system with standard XM satellite radio and USB connection point.

As with all other recent new vehicles from Honda, the TSX comes with the automaker’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering front body structure, designed to minimize damage to other vehicles and injury to pedestrians hit by the car (at low speeds, of course).

Acura has a consumer base that loves high-tech features, so to please those customers, a Technology Package adds a variety of gadgets. They include a GPS-based navigation/communications system with voice recognition, Zagat restaurant information, and an integrated rearview camera; the AcuraLink satellite communications system; real-time traffic with a new rerouting function; AcuraLink weather; a 10-speaker Acura/ELS premium sound system with multi-format, six-disc DVD-audio changer; and a GPS-linked, solar-sensing, dual-zone automatic-climate-control system.

The optional audio system was named for and designed by Grammy award-winning sound engineer Elliot Scheiner. Acura says the sound from DVD surround-sound audio discs played on this system is 500 times clearer than from a traditional compact disc.

Spectacular Win: New Acura prototype sports car gets its first win

AP – Driver David Brabham, center, sprays champagne after winning the American Le Mans Acura Sports Car Challenge … ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A radically new Acura prototype sports car co-driven by David Brabham and Scott Sharp has taken an easy victory in the American Le Mans Series race on the temporary street circuit in downtown St. Petersburg.

Brabham, easily winning the LMP1 class, drove the second half of Saturday's race, which lasted just under two hours. He crossed the finish line on the 1.8-mile, 14-turn circuit 32.15 seconds ahead of runner-up Adrian Fernandez, sharing an LMP2 Acura with Luis Diaz.

The diesel-powered Audis and Peugeots that dominated Sebring were not entered, leaving the battle up front in the 17-car field to the two LMP1 Acura ARX 02as. The cars have a gasoline engine and the same size tires on all four corners — something not seen in major auto racing in about four decades.

2010 Acura ZDX at the 2009 New York Auto Show

Honda and Acura don’t often roll out concept cars. Instead, they reveal prototypes that closely resemble upcoming production vehicles. That’s definitely the case with the Acura ZDX crossover concept. The company announced today it will indeed go on sale this fall. We’d guess the first look at a final version will be at a press event shortly before the car goes on sale.

What will that production ZDX be like? It’ll feature a V-6 engine, six-speed automatic transmission and Acura’s Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive along with 20-inch wheels, which we’d guess will be standard.

The company also promises an upscale cabin beyond what’s in current Acuras. High-tech features will include a blind spot detection system and multi-view rear camera. It will also have a panoramic glass sunroof, as all luxury crossovers must have these days.

As for the styling … we’re not sure if the BMW X6 is really something to emulate.

Unfortunately, the ZDX’s best angle, the rear, isn’t represented well in Acura’s supplied press photos below. We’ll have more live shots later today

The All New Honda Acura ZDX 2010 Sports Coupe Details

The 2010 Acura ZDX will be available in late 2009.

If Acura is to be believed, the vehicle above is not an SUX, not CUV, and not a wagon. No, Acura is calling the 2010 ZDX a four-door sports coupe. If you thought the BMW X6 was an odd bird, you're going to love this.

The ZDX will be powered by a 3.7-liter, all-aluminum V-6 engine will send 300 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque through an all-new six-speed automatic transmission. Steering wheel mounted paddle shifters should lend to the ZDX's sports coupe image, while standard Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) should keep the 19-inch, 7-spoke alloy wheels glued to the asphalt.

Inside the ZDX looks familiar with design and tech we've seen in previous Acura models.

Inside, the ZDX seats up to five adults in two rows of seats, behind which is a cargo area can also be expanded to accommodate longer objects, such as golf bags, by removing side panels in the cargo-compartment sidewalls. As an added bonus, there is an integrated under-floor storage area.

When the ZDX hits Acura dealers later this year, customers will have the choice of three distinct trim levels: ZDX, ZDX with Technology Package, and ZDX with Advance Package. Standard on all ZDX models is the panoramic glass roof, leather interior, Bluetooth connectivity, power tailgate, and USB audio interface with iPod integration. The Technology Package adds navigation with voice recognition, an Acura/ELS Surround premium audio system, and a new multiview rear camera. Finally, the Advance Package adds a blind spot information system, a Collision Mitigating Braking System (CMBS), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

With the ZDX, Acura fires a shot directly across the bow of the BMW X6.

Acura hasn't released pricing or date of availability, but has stated that the ZDX will be available this winter and will slot between the MDX and the RL in size and pricing, so expect an MSRP between $40,990 and $46,830.

Acura adds V-6 to TSX sedan for first time

What can be wrong with a car that's a Consumer Reports' recommended buy, earns top crash test ratings, delivers commendable fuel economy and is competitively priced?

If the car is in the compact luxury sedan class, it better offer a six-cylinder engine in order to be considered a real contender.

This is a key reason why Honda's luxury brand, Acura, adds a V-6 to its TSX for the first time in history.

Company officials expect just 20 percent of 2010 model TSX sales to be V-6 models. But the new, 280-horsepower engine, plus revised suspension tuning and 18-inch, high-performance tires make the TSX undeniably sporty, not just mildly sporty.

Best of all, the TSX continues with competitive pricing in both four- and six-cylinder models.

Starting manufacturer's suggested retail price, including destination charge, is up just $150, to $30,120, from the base price for a 2009 model. The 2010 price is for a base, front-wheel drive TSX with 201-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and either a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic.

The starting retail price for a 2010 Acura TSX with 280-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 is $35,660. A five-speed automatic transmission with SportShift, which can be shifted manually without a clutch pedal, is the only transmission for the V-6.

Competitors include the BMW 3-Series with 230-horsepower six cylinder, which starts at $34,425 for a 2009 model with manual transmission. With an automatic, the 3-Series sedan with six-cylinder engine starts at $35,750.

The Lexus IS 250 with V-6 generates 204 horses, which is about what the four-cylinder TSX has, but was priced at $32,180 with manual transmission as a 2009 model. The Lexus IS 350 with 306-horsepower V-6 and automatic has a starting MSRP, including destination charge, of $37,630 for a 2009 model.

Of course, there's still the matter that the TSX is front-wheel drive, while the BMW and Lexus are rear-drive cars. And sports car enthusiasts argue that rear-drive provides true sports car handling.

But there's little doubt that the new TSX is well-equipped, and its federal government fuel mileage ratings are on par with other luxury, six-cylinder-powered sedans.

Standard features on every TSX include seats trimmed in perforated leather, power-adjustable and heated front seats, power moonroof, Bluetooth phone interface, high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps, XM satellite radio with complimentary service period, and USB and auxiliary jack connectivity ports built into the center console.

In the 2009 IS 350, perforated leather seat trim was part of option packages priced at more than $800, and HID headlamps were another $875 extra. Satellite radio and heated front seats were each a $500 option and a USB connector was a $400 option on the 2009 BMW 328i sedan.

The TSX with V-6 is rated at 18 miles per gallon in city driving and 27 mpg on the highway by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. While this is a decrease from the 21/30-mpg rating of a four-cylinder TSX with automatic transmission, it's still competitive with BMW and Lexus six-cylinder engines.

For example, the 2009 BMW 328i sedan was rated at 18/28 mpg, and the 2010 Lexus IS 350 is rated at 18/25 mpg.

The test Acura TSX V-6 had excellent fit and finish, with no body gap or trim piece out of place even a smidgen.

And the engine, with 254 foot-pounds of torque peaking at 5,000 rpm, punched the car forward easily from stop lights.

Even though the TSX with V-6 is some 200 pounds heavier than the four-cylinder TSX, it sure doesn't feel like it. The car feels light and more at ease at high speeds than the four-cylinder TSX, thanks to the increased engine power.

The shifts were smooth through the transmission, unless I worked it manually for even more gusto. The SportShift actually held downshifts so I could use engine braking on downhills.

In city traffic, this Acura got up to speed limits so quickly I had to consciously watch the speedometer to keep from going over.

Unfortunately, Acura still recommends premium gasoline for all models of TSX, even the V-6 version. So filling the 18.5-gallon tank these days can cost more than $50.

The car was quieter than I had remembered its four-cylinder predecessor being. Acura officials said they've updated the old noise-cancelling system used to reduce low sounds.

The new Active Sound Control works on high-frequency noise during cruising, and it doesn't try to counter the throaty exhaust sounds that drivers like to hear during acceleration with the V-6.

Still, there was some road noise from the new, larger tires. Note that neither the Lexus IS 350 nor the BMW 3-Series come standard with 18-inch tires and wheels.

TSX brakes were updated for the higher engine power and worked strongly in the test car.

I especially appreciated the work done on the TSX electric power steering, which was adjusted for the 2010 models with V-6 so there's a more direct driver-to-wheel sporty feel.

All controls in the 2010 TSX were well-arranged and within easy reach so it didn't take a lot of time to familiarize myself with the car and start driving.

Front seats, in particular, are nicely supportive. Back seats have decent legroom of 34.3 inches for a compact sedan. And rear-seat headroom of 37 inches is on par with the Lexus IS.

Trunk space, too, at 12.6 cubic feet is good, especially considering the rear seatback splits and folds down for additional cargo room when needed.

All safety equipment, including six air bags, traction control and electronic stability control, is standard.

New Hot Cars In 2010 You Wish You Could Buy

New Chevrolet Cruze

If the economy recovers, 2010 could be a very good year for Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Co., both of which are poised to launch new high-volume, high-m.p.g. vehicles next year.

Cars like the Chevrolet Cruze and Ford Focus compacts..

with the promise of low prices and stingy fuel consumption, seem perfectly suited to the mood of the times.

Chrysler hopes to rekindle buyers' passions with new versions of the Chrysler 300C and Dodge Charger.

Japanese and German automakers have few potential big sellers in the wings. Hyundai looks set to continue its momentum with a couple of stylish new vehicles, however.

Here's an advance look at some of the most intriguing or significant new models coming over the next year:

Chevrolet Cruze: The roomy compact could be a top seller for General Motors. The Cruze looks to be competitive with stalwarts like the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic, but Chevrolet will need head-turning fuel economy to convince skeptical buyers to try its new small car. Look for EPA ratings above 40 m.p.g. from Cruzes featuring a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine and six-speed automatic transmission.

Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger: The second generation of the last great cars Chrysler developed. They'll be under a microscope, because the originals were so good, and because they're the first new Chryslers since Fiat took control of the company. The cars' styling recaptures the originality and excitement of the first Chrysler 300, and their rear-drive platforms should delight fans. Fuel economy will almost certainly be a challenge, however.

Ford Explorer: America's best-selling SUV will be replaced by a more fuel-efficient car-based vehicle, but the name could confuse some buyers. The new crossover wagon may not be rugged enough for owners of traditional SUVs, while crossover shoppers may dismiss it because they assume an Explorer must be a big, heavy SUV. "Ford has to market the new Explorer really well so people know what it is," Hall said.

Acura ZDX: Honda's luxury brand needs a hit, but its pricey new crossover faces challenges. "It's a bold move to make an untested vehicle like that a brand's flagship model," said Stephanie Brinley of consultant AutoPacific. Prices for the 300-horsepower V6 crossover with the sloping roof and hatchback will start at $50,000, according to Edmunds.com. "It's going to be a niche vehicle," said consultant Erich Merkle of Autoconomy.com. "You lose function and form with the low roofline."

Cadillac CTS coupe: "It enhances the sex appeal of the whole Cadillac lineup," Brinley said. The CTS sedan elevated Cadillac to the front rank of luxury brands, but the coupe still has to "earn its stripes," said Jim Hall, managing director of 2953 Analytics. "The BMW 3-series owns the luxury coupe segment," he said. "It's tough to establish a new vehicle's credibility," he said.

Ford Focus: Ford's sophisticated global compact car is to finally go on sale in the United States. The new Focus promises to be a quantum leap better than the current model, but it will have to remain affordable to succeed. "Ford has a lot riding on the Focus," Brinley said. "They need to prove they can be profitable with a small car."

Ford Fiesta: The attractive subcompact will test American buyers' appetite for small cars. "The design is a knockout," Merkle said. "It's got a cute factor like the Mini Cooper, but is more affordable. It could appeal to empty-nesters as well as young buyers."

Honda Accord Crosstour: Honda's alternative to Toyota's sleek Venza crossover wagon attempts to meld an Accord-style nose to a Civic-like tail. The styling could be polarizing, but the car's position as a roomy flagship to the popular Accord line should generate interest. Edmunds.com predicts prices will start at $31,500.

Hyundai Sonata: Sketches of the new midsize sedan's slinky profile show a stunning departure from today's staid Sonata. Combined with Hyundai's steadily rising quality scores, the Sonata could be a game-changer for the Korean brand. "It trumps the Accord and Camry's design and could take a piece out of both of them," Merkle said. Hyundai's popular Tucson small crossover SUV gets an equally striking redo as the brand repositions itself upward.

2010 Acura ZDX priced from $45,495

Acura and its parent company Honda may not be concerned with adding rear-wheel drive or V-8 engines to its lineup, but it is adding at least one new model to its small family, bringing its tally to six all up.

Acura has announced that its latest model, the all-new 2010 ZDX four-door coupe/crossover, will hit showrooms on December 15 with a starting price of $45,495, plus a destination and handling charge of $810.

The ZDX will be available in three trim packages, the base ZDX; ZDX with Technology Package; and the ZDX with Advance Package. In base trim, the vehicle comes very well equipped, with world's longest panoramic glass roof, concealed rear door handles, and a hand-stitched leather dash, center console and door panels all coming as standard.

The only powertrain is a 3.7-liter gasoline V-6 that generates 300 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque while achieving an EPA-rated city/highway fuel economy of 16/23 mpg. Standard on every ZDX is Acura's exclusive Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system that provides.

The Technology Package adds a navigation system with voice recognition, real-time traffic and weather updates, a touchscreen display and reversing camera, as well as premium audio system with a 15 GB hard-drive.

The Advance Package, meanwhile, adds a new blind spot information system, adaptive cruise control, active damper management, a sports steering wheel and heated and ventilated front seats with perforated leather trim.
Trim - Pricing - EPA city/highway/combined
ZDX $45,495 16/23/19
ZDX with Technology Package $49,995 16/23/19
ZDX with Advance Package $56,045 16/23/19

Acura Confirms Honda’s Sports-Car Plan

Honda’s Sports-Car Plan

Acura has confirmed the news that Honda Motors is planning to bring out a new sports car. The company said that the new car will not be a follow up of the NSX. It is widely anticipated that the new vehicle will be a sports model that will meet the needs of the current times and customers.

According to blog.caranddriver, the new sports vehicle from the Japanese automaker is likely to feature a front-engine with all-wheel-drive and a V-6 engine that can be turbocharged or possibly even hybridized. Speculations are made that the vehicle could also be the equivalent of an Acura RL coupe with the dull charm of the Honda CR-Z.

There are rumors in the air about the features and specifications of the new sports vehicle from Honda. Neither the Japanese headquarters nor the Acura America, the American division of Honda, has said anything on when to expect the new sports car or in which concept form the vehicle will hit the roads.

New Acura NSX Production Delayed

 New Acura NSX Production Delayed

When the Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept made its debut at Detroit in 2007, it became evident that a new Acura NSX would not be available in 2008. Now, a Honda official has confirmed to Ward's Auto that the next generation Acura NSX will debut in 2010. “We are developing it without any delay, so most probably we will have it in the period we already promised,” American Honda President and CEO Tetsuo Iwamura told a Ward's Auto reporter. Previously, Honda CEO Takeo Fukui had said the car would come out between 2008 and 2009. In a 2005 speech, Fukui had said Honda would like to introduce a V-10 sports car "in three to four years." When the Advanced Sports Car Concept was shown off in Detroit, Fukui said a production version would be introduced at the October Tokyo Motor Show. Despite the pressure placed on Honda by Nissan, which had planned - and succeded - in introducing their GT-R at Tokyo, Honda was unable to complete their production model. Rumors have since surfaced that an unenthusiastic responce to the concept sent the model back to the engineers for a reworking. The concept was designed by Acura's Los Angeles-based design team. The end result is likely that the introduction of the Acura brand to Japan will be delayed, which could mean Americans might get the first shot at the NSX. If Honda retains similar specs as the Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept, then you can expect the new Acura NSX to be a supercar with a front-mounted V-10, and a highly-tuned rear-wheel drive version of Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system.

The Acura "Advanced Sedan Concept" made its world debut today at the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show. Created by Acura's Los Angeles-based advanced design team, the concept features a modern, powerful exterior while retaining an ultra luxurious feel.

"The Advanced Sedan Concept illustrates Acura's commitment to modern design and cutting-edge style," said John Mendel, senior vice president, auto operations. "With our advanced design team taking a significant role in shaping future vehicle design, we can expect upcoming products to reflect this progressive, forward-thinking styling."

The Advanced Sedan Concept is the purest expression of advanced design, performance and luxury, highlighted by its powerful, wide stance and deeply sculpted surfaces. The primary goal of this design study was to create a sophisticated, refined sedan with a mysterious presence.

The concept's generous exterior proportions suggest that a large, powerful engine lurks beneath the surface. The exterior lines reveal a sheer, sculpted lower body contrasted with a taut, architectural cabin. Although ultra-modern in its design, the concept retains the classic silhouette associated with a flagship sedan.

Low to the ground, the concept is anchored by large 22 inch front and 23 inch rear tires which are mounted to custom billet-machined, polished aluminum wheels. Powerful brake discs and calipers accent the wheels and large ducts direct cooling air to the components. Bold wheel arches and flares add to the concept's muscular appearance.

The sleek, compact cockpit nestles atop the sculpted body and flows from hood to trunk. For a unique panoramic view, the roof is constructed entirely of tinted glass that shades the occupants while still connecting them to the outside world.

"We wanted to capture the essence of an ultra luxurious sedan but give it a striking, mysterious presence to create a vehicle with a dual personality," said Dave Marek, chief designer, Honda R&D Americas, Inc. "The concept echoes this quality with its clean exterior lines, a wide, stance, high performance cues and key luxury accents."

The hood is accented with pronounced character lines that culminate in the aggressive five-sided grille, which contributes to the sedan's bold presence. The commanding grille is constructed of polished aluminum and features a cut crystal Acura emblem. The narrow headlights also double as air intakes and are positioned low on the bumper, further enhancing the sedan's already commanding 79.5 inch width.

"The front of the sedan communicates power and luxury," explains Marek. "The pronounced hood and large grille communicate performance, while the jewel-like Acura emblem captures the essence of pure luxury."

In the rear, the Advanced Sedan Concept has a flush mounted rear bumper with the high-mounted stop lamp integrated into the center break of the trunk. The jeweled taillights are pushed to the outer edge of the bumper to further enhance the vehicle's wide and low appearance, while integrated dual exhaust outlets complement the sedan's performance-oriented style.

Design Proposal: Acura 2+1 Coupe Concept

Design Proposal: Acura 2+1 Coupe Concept

Now that the V10 Acura NSX has officially been killed off due to the current global economic meltdown, Acura fans have been left to ponder what a coupe from the company would look like. Thanks to the design efforts of Colombian designer Leon Paz, a former intern at Honda's research and development center for America, we no longer have to wonder. Meant to be an everyday sports car at reasonable price the design exercise blends futuristic cues with Acura's new styling direction. The exterior is dominated by sharp angles and wedges in an effect that the designer calls "multi-faceted". Among the more unique features is the 2+1 seating layout and a transparent roof that flows from the engine compartment all the way back to the rear of the car.

2010 Acura NSX to Live as Super GT Racer - Road Car Plans Still Dead

2010 Acura NSX to Live as Super GT Racer - Road Car Plans Still Dead

Acura's NSX supercar may rise from the dead to compete in the Super GT racing series. According to InsideLine, Acura circumvented Super GT Series homologation rules that require race cars be based on a production vehicle. They did this by using another rule which allows production ready (but not currently in production) cars to be entered into the series. The trick appears to have worked, as series officials (the Japan Automobile Federation) have given the NSX the green light. While details are limited, the race car is expected to be virtually identical to the production NSX that was killed off late last year. However, the NSX racer will reportedly use a 3.4-liter V8 instead of a 5.0-liter V10 which was expected in the production model. Look for more information to be released when the 2010 racing season starts up. Source: insideline.com and jonsibal.com

Acura NSX supercar to produce 400bhp - roadster version planne

Acura NSX supercar to produce 400bhp - roadster version planned

As previously announced, the Acura NSX supercar concept will take center stage in less than two weeks at the Detroit Auto Show. Earlier reports placed a 3.5- to 3.7-liter V6 hybrid powertrain under the hood of the aluminum bodied NSX. Market launch is expected to take place in 2014. Building on this info, British print magazine AutoExpress has reported the long overdue supercar aimed to compete with the Audi R8 will output 400 bhp (406 PS / 298 kW). The V6 engine will motivate the rear axle while two electric motors placed in-wheel will do the rest. 0-100 km/h will arrive in less than five seconds while undoubtedly achieving impressive fuel economy. But the kicker is that the NSX will eventually be made as a roadster variant. Perhaps no stretch of the imagination as we have already seen spy shots of the alleged concept car with Robert Downey Jr on the set of the new Avengers movie, but we will find out soon enough.
