Lamborghini's Frankfurt Debut Could Be A New Gallardo

Lamborghini

Last week, Lamborghini released a teaser for an unspecified super sports car with racing ties they’re bringing to the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. After taking a close look at the car maker’s present lineup and oft-discussed potential future models, we took an educated guess that the Frankfurt car would be a production version of the track-only Sesto Elemento.

Well, now we’ve got some conflicting reports coming in that say Lamborghini’s German debut won’t be a Sesto Elemento, but in fact, something like a roadgoing version of the Gallardo Super Trofeo race car. Think of it as the GT3 RS of the Gallardo family.

According to Auto Express, the Super Trofeo will take the formula used by the LP 570-4 Superleggera and push it even further: lighter weight, increasingly rapacious looks, and possibly—if we’ve all been good little Lamborghini fans this year—some additional power from the 5.2 liter V10. Auto Express even claims they know the show car will be bright red, which, if true, makes it seem like Lamborghini is shooting for this year’s “Epic Ferrari Burn” award.

Meanwhile, some of the traditionally dependable sources at Teamspeed tell a slightly different story. They say the new car will use a combination of Super Trofeo and Sesto Elemento-derived bits, and will likely be called the LP 590-4—presumably in reference to a 590 metric horsepower engine output.

With a Super Trofeo/LP590-4 model added to the range, the Gallardo lineup will be nine versions strong (it’s like their 911!); expect the new car to sit at the top of the range, with a price close to $325,000 or so. With a predicted 0 to 60 time of 3.0 seconds and a top speed of 210 mph, though, buyers probably won’t be complaining too much about the cost. They’ll be too busy dealing with their eight-hour erection. Even the female owners.
