The new wave of super-performance sports cars is going carbon fiber monocoque, including the McLaren MP4-12C and, of course, the Lamborghini Aventador. The result, as seen in these rolling chassis photos from Pebble Beach's concept lawn, is a whole lotta carbon fiber going on beneath the surface.
Unlike the McLaren, however, the Aventador is not just the lower tub, but the entire passenger cell, including the A-pillars, roof, and rear bulkhead. While this is mostly hidden in the final product, all of that carbon fiber goes to making the vehicle lighter, more rigid, and higher-performance.
These images of the car in rolling chassis form show how the front and rear subframes bolt onto the monocoque, and how low the engine sits in the whole arrangement. It's a design made in performance heaven, and we can't wait to see it trickle further down the market.
