2010 BMW Z4 GT3 Gets M3 V-8 Engine

BMW has finally added the M3’s 4.0-liter V-8 to the new Z4’s engine lineup. Unfortunately, the 2010 BMW Z4 GT3 is available only to private racing teams, as the car is intended for competition in the GT3 racing category.
After withdrawing from Formula 1 for the 2010 season, BMW decided to up the ante in its other motorsports involvements. This included the addition of a new sports car racer. The new Z4 GT3 is eligible to compete in the GT3 class of all the major racing series around the world and will see action next to its big brother, the M3 GT2.

Powering the Z4 GT3 is a 480 hp version of the M3’s 4.0-liter V-8, which should give the Z4 some serious speed. This is coupled to a six-speed transmission built specially for racing and likely a sequential gearbox, although BMW has not given any specifics.

In addition to a new powerplant, the Z4 GT3 receives various upgrades including new racing wheels, aerodynamics upgrades, brakes, and reprogrammed ABS. Of course to comply with racing regulations, the folding hardtop is replaced with a standard fixed roof.

BMW’s new Z4 GT3 will go on sale to private racing teams in the second quarter of 2010 at a price of around $430,000.
