Maruti Suzuki Ciaz (YL1) Sedan Car Tipped For 2014 launch

Maruti Suzuki showcased the Ciaz concept sedan at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. The car began life as the Suzuki AuthenticS concept in China, hitting Indian shores as the Ciaz concept. The Ciaz, code-named the YL1, has already been spotted testing in India.

2014 launch time frame for Maruti Suzuki’s latest C-Segment sedan. Interestingly, the report also claims that the Ciaz will be slotted above the SX4 in terms of price and positioning. This claim does belie the initial details emerging about the Ciaz though.

 

The Ciaz is based on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga’s platform, which in turn is a modified platform upon which India’s best selling B+ segment hatchback, the Swift, is based............ From the initial rash of spyshots............. the quality of the Ciaz’s interiors, especially the dashboard bits appeared top notch.

Maruti Suzuki could make a dent on sales of other C-Segment sedans, something that the SX4 could never manage. However, the indicated pricing between 9.5-12 lakh rupees for the Ciaz appears optimistic at best and we .................can’t fathom why Maruti Suzuki would want to enter price points that clearly now belongs to the SUV brigade.

the Ciaz is also tipped to dig into the MPV’s parts bin for engines and gearboxes.......... The 1.4 liter K-Series petrol (94 Bhp-130 Nm) and the 1.3 liter fiat Multijet turbo diesel (90 Bhp-200 Nm) engines are likely to power the new C-Segment sedan............. 5 speed manual gearboxes could be stamdard with the 4 speed automatic gearbox or a 5 speed AMT option thrown in for those who prefer slush boxes................. With these specifications in mind, price points similar to the outgoing SX4 seem more plausible for the Ciaz concept’s production version.
