The fiscal year 2011-2012 witnesses the gaining popularity in the small car exports with a record of 13.5% of growth, despite the global slowdown in the auto market for past few months. In comparison with the last year, the trend this year has recorded increase in sales forNissan and Ford. The quarter of April-June for the year 2011 has jotted 113,372 units of exports against the 99,851 units exported last year in the micro, mini and the small car segment.
The largest auto biggies Maruti and Hyundai in India have fallen behind in the league with Ford and Nissan. Hyundai’s export has witnessed the dip in sales by 6% with only 53,125 units against last year’s 56,559 whereas Maruti’s graph has gone down by shocking 24% with only 30,254 units against last year’s 39, 804 for the same quarter, for the year 2010.
In the year 2011 while Nissan and Ford have managed to cross their sales targets in Quarter 1, Maruti and Hundai have fallen short to keep up their last year’s target. Maruti India retains the number one position with Maruti Swift, Hyundai comes second with Hyundai i10 sales followed by Ford on third position with Ford Figo. Maruti India and Hyundai have failed to accelerate their export sales in European Market after the ‘Scrappage Incentive Scheme'.
Talking about the dip in the export figures in small car segment of Quarter 1, Mr Arvind Saxena, Director of Sales and Marketing, Hyundai Motors India mentioned that their focus is on the growth in the domestic market that has accelerated by 12.2% against last year’s sales. Maruti India and Hyundai India remain the top players in domestic market of small car sales whereas Ford India and Nissan rein the exported cars segment in the international market.
