Ford India Launch Small Car in 2010



Ford announced that it will launch its new small car in India by 2010. It currently has 30 percent market share in its range of offerings in the Indian market. It announced that with its $500 million investment plans it will launch a small car in India by 2010. It will also start its engine making unit and double its assembly line capacity.

Next generation Ford Ikon is already slated for a launch next month from the company that marks its strong presence in Indian car market with its popular brands like Fusion, Endeavour and Fiesta.

“Ford now has a presence in only 30 percent of India’s automobile market segments. We are entering other segments too. These are exciting times. We are also commissioning a new engine manufacturing unit. It will serve both the domestic and global markets. It will have the flexibility to produce diesel and petrol engines. The idea is to go for higher localization in the months to come,” says Michael Boneham, Managing Director and President, Ford India. He also added that that Global Ford Team will specifically design the small car for Indian driving coditions.
