Audi, the German luxury car manufacturer, has recorded an impressive 81% growth in India in the calendar year 2010, exceeding its annual sales targets, yet again. Audi India sold 3003 cars this year compared to 1658 cars sold in 2009. Sales figures for the month of December stood at 212 cars, recording a growth of 96% (108 cars sold in December 2009).
“We are proud of our performance in 2010, having recorded continuous growth all through the year. We have exceeded our projected goals for the third year in succession and will continue to keep our foot on the accelerator. We expect to see further growth this year thanks to our aggressive product offensive beginning with the Audi A8 L and a slew of other exciting launches during the year. The launch of the new A6 later this year will also deliver additional momentum.”
“We will continue to expand and strengthen our existing network across the country and are focused towards enhancing the overall customer experience. I am confident that the new Audi A8 L will help us replicate in the sedan segment the success that we have achieved in the luxury SUV segment with the Audi Q7,” he added.
Globally too, the Audi brand achieved exceptional success in 2010. The brand emerged as the No. 1 brand in Europe and continued to hold its No. 1 position in China in 2010. AUDI AG sold 1,092,400 cars in 2010 compared to 950, 000 cars sold in 2009, exceeding sales of the previous best year in the company’s history (1,003,469 cars in 2008), already in the month of November 2010.
The brand is investing heavily in its future. AUDI AG plans to invest around € 11.6 billion between 2011 and 2015, primarily in people, new products and technologies, as well as in upgrading its sites. About 80 % of all investment – more than € 9.5 billion – will go into developing new products and technologies of the future such as electric and hybrid drive systems.
